EXAMINING THE TECHQUAKE:

­The 1960s gave way to the Youthquake movement; a young generation bursting amidst radical changes in fashion and music.  Some designers experimented with such novelty materials as plastic, paper and metal.  As exciting as these times were, they were a mere reflection of what was going on in society with the Space Race, birth control pill and women’s lib.  It was a new era and it could be felt in the air. Similarly, it seems we are in the process of experiencing seismic shifts again.  Drastic global changes, continuous wars and other cultural events tend to push us forward in need of a new beginning; a better life.  Technology and its continuous evolution is assisting us in all aspects of our lives.  Is it no coincidence that new designers are once again experimenting with tech materials more so than before? It’s as if they are subconsciously promoting the embracing of wearable technology…
