Emirate fashion designer, Khulood Thani has created the first 3D printed dress in Dubai. She spent 9 months working alongside an architect conceptualizing and experimenting before arriving at the finished product. The idea was to produce a garment that is not only innovative but also easily worn. Taking inspiration from Dubai’s cityscape, the upper part of the dress consists of multi-shaped cubes that represent the vast array of the city’s buildings. The lower torso (of the dress) is free from structural parts which allows for easy sitting and movement. Until more advanced developments in flexible and comfortable materials, her idea may be what sets apart structural art forms from wearable fashion.
